Dr Seuss, The Lorax – Art Journalled

Hi there, today my daughter and I went to see the movie The Lorax and when I got home I was kind of inspired to try to Art Journal about it. Now, no laughing at my poor attempt at drawing, ok, but here it is in all it’s Ugly beauty (oxymoron yeah, I know), but thanks for taking the time to look. The drawing was the biggest challenge as I can’t even draw stick people, but my daughter applauded my attempt, so I have to be happy with that.

First up the background and then my attempt at drawing.

Next painting a little

Next painting in his body..

And finally a little journalling…. Yeah I know I can’t draw for crap but my 8 year old thinks I can LOL

White Noise, White Noise

This is a very basic art journalling page, but it represents me when I am stuck for inspiration. I actually love that song white noise (bet you are singing it now, LOL). It represents when I am stuck for inspiration and I am looking at a blank page, it’s white noise, blank page. I used a crafters workshop stencil for the white “noise”, obviously painted the page black and the pic I got from a postcard from an SA festival…. So many colours in her head but still no inspiration.. Yeah, I know, probably a long bow to draw from my page, but here it is 🙂

Another Journal Page

Ok, you might get sick of these posts but I had to play again today. I ordered a Moleskine Watercolour Notebook  thinking, yes, that’s perfect for journalling. The paper and the quality is, BUT, the size is too small as you will probably notice when you look at what I have done. My stencil was way too big for the pages, but again, I made do with what I had until I get some smaller stencils. This one was spritzed with water first, then used luminarte colours and tattered angels glimmers mists, then the flowers were done with a stencil with gesso applied through it (because gesso dries faster than modelling paste), then I thought, hmmm, the stencilled flowers need a little colour, so I painted them and then kind of rubbed off some of the colour.. Anyway, you get the gist of it, I am sure! My hands are filthy with gesso, inks, glimmer mists, you name it and sheesh it feels GOOD!!

Ok.. here you go. I would love some comments and feedback. Remember, this is all new, but I am having fun and that is what it is all about. Actually, sheesh, I am on a roll, I keep typing, LOL.. Art Journalling is all about YOUR Journal, what you want it to be, what you make it. There are no right or wrongs. Art Journalling is personal, so go with what you want and how you want it to look . Guess what? I’m rolling with what I want right now and who knows, in the future it may change.

One more thing, because I am on a roll, yeah yeah, I’ll shut up in in a minute…. I am finding by doing some work inspired by Dyan Reavely that I am feeling that I can let go of that OMG it is not perfect thing that I have LOL. Mind you, I still look at this page, same as the other one and grimace a little thinking I have never slapped anything down like that. Well it is free-ing in a way and my daughter who is 8 also did some art journalling and yes you guessed it, she had no probs slapping it down, feeling great about it all. I need to find my inner child again and then maybe my art and craft will be more relaxed!! Food for thought!

Dylusions inspired

Art Journalling

Hi there! Long time, no blog!

Well I finally got enthused to do an art journal page. I watched a Dyan Reaveley video from CHA, using her new Dylusion Ink Sprays, stencils and stamps and she certainly got my attention. So, I played along with her on the video. Mind you I don’t have Dyan’s fantastic products yet, but I have today just ordered them!! So I made do with what I had and here is the outcome. It’s not bad for my first try at this sort of thing, if I say so myself. I just wish I had of had more different colour sprays on hand to play with!
